Respect thy user
Web sites are often designed as eye candy only without including user-friendliness in the design brief. In this day and age, users will quickly move from a difficult-to-use web site and find greener pastures where products and services are clearly described and easily accessible.
When judging a web site design for ease of use, remember that a web site has to speak for itself when a visitor logs on.
We have listed a few design pointers to keep in mind:
- Keep navigation simple and clear. Busy web sites often employ extensive dropdown menu's for navigation - if these have to be used, make sure they are clear and concise. Include a bread crumb trail on all pages.
- Do not open new windows on your site. Opening new windows are a major irritation to most users.
